This Ford Expedition has gone to the edge and come back a monster.
Just standing next to Kevin Benfields Ford Expedition is like standing next to a monster. Benfields’ love has been monster trucks, ever since seeing Bigfoot in action. Since then he has taken his family SUV and turned it in to his version of a monster truck.
From the moment your eyes fix on Benfields’ Godzilla themed SUV, you realize that there is so much to see that you can’t possibly capture it all in just one glance. The theme carried out throughout the truck is just amazing right down to the reptile scales on the 22-inch rims with massive 40x15.5-inch Tires from Toyo Tires , which make up Godzilla’s feet.
The paint is made up of 19 hues of House of Kolor Paints, which are beautifully choreographed and painted by James “Liquid Wizard” Quevedo in Carmichael, California. Quevedo orchestrated multiple shades of green fire, which mix with murals on the “Reflexxion” Cobra hood and shaved lift gate. The hood has Godzilla wreaking havoc with the Eiffel Tower and on the lift gate is a scene of Godzilla blowing off steam outside his oceanside lair. The base green body paint has effects of metal being ripped to shreds indicating Godzilla’s recent visit.
Custom billet badges donning the name of Godzilla replace the Ford badges and Godzilla’s suspension begins with a 6-inch Fabtech spring lift matched with a 3-inch body lift. Modifying torsion keys in front and adding custom billet coil Spacers in the rear obtained 2 extra inches. All the major suspension components including the axles were powdercoated or chromed making Godzilla’s belly as attractive as its skin.
Dual shock mounts in the rear were fabricated while the front dual shock mounts are a Fabtech kit. The Rancho suspension RS9000 Adjustable Shock Absorbers were all chromed to become more noticeable. The Mag-Hytec differential cover was also chromed, as many will see this truck from the rear. To further enhance this area, a set of traction bars were fabricated and chromed. Finally, the driveshaft was also removed and chromed to complement the rest of the undercarriage.
Godzilla’s Lighting has all been customized as well, sporting Lightning style headlights with TYC retro style corners. His taillights are TYC Elegante Series units and the fog Lights are from Optix. Whelan green strobes will get your attention and over 30 feet of green LEDs adorn the under body for an ominous glow at night. Behind the “Godzilla” license plate in the front is a hidden 9000lb Warn winch and just above is a Stull Industries Billet Grilles .
Godzilla’s interior theme has been brilliantly carried out on the vehicle’s seats, which are made up of tan suede with green Godzilla gator skin inserts. “Godzilla” is embroidered into the headrests and the carpets are dark green to match the exterior color. The detail runs into the dash with 47 pieces treated to a green snakeskin photo genesis process. Godzilla skin also runs throughout the door trim, airbags and steering wheel. Billet also accessorizes the interior in the form of a rear view mirror, pedals, door locks, AC knobs, window control group and kick plates. This also doesn’t include the 24 billet switches just for the accessories. The console was also painted to match the exterior and nothing in this SUV’s interior was overlooked.
Audio and video upgrades keep pace with Godzilla’s size, beginning with a Pioneer Electronics KDH 7700 head unit, which is powered by two ARC Audio 1500 watt mono subwoofer amplifiers, and one ARC Audio 1000-watt four-channel amp for Godzilla’s growl. Spektrum Audio Design 6.5 inch speakers are installed in all the doors with two-inch super tweeters. A custom subwoofer box was formed and curved from 5/8-inch tinted Plexiglas for superior strength. A total of six 12-inch ARC Audio subs are housed there and it packs enough bass to pound concrete into powder.
The video system consists of two 7.5-inch Samson screens mounted into custom made sun visors consisting of three layers of both tinted and clear Plexiglas sandwiched together. One 10-inch Blackmore pull-down screen is mounted to the ceiling and one 15-inch Blackmore pull-down screen is molded into a custom made hatch panel in the rear. A custom X-Box holds 200-mb of games, movies and music for those passengers in Godzilla’s belly.
It’s no surprise that Godzilla’s power has been upgraded, beginning with a Lightning 80mm mass airflow sensor and K&N Engineering cold air kit. The air then flows into a BBK Perf 80mm throttle body through an intake elbow bored and polished to match the throttle body bore size. The stock 16lb Injectors were upgraded to 24lb units and they are backed up with a 190-gph Ford Racing fuel pump to help quench Godzilla’s thirst. Just to spark things up a bit an ignition Solutions Plasma Booster has been added to the engine to ensure proper combustion.
In order to keep the engine’s exhaust breathing freely, a set of Gibson Performance Exhaust stainless steel Headers have been installed with Magnaflow Performance Exhaust hi-flow catalytic converters and Flowmaster 40-series mufflers with a 2.5-inch SS pipe. All this allows Godzilla to freely flex his muscles. But Godzilla has been working out and might get more muscle with a soon to be put on supercharger. Furthermore, Benfields is planning on adding a special effect on the SUV that will pipe Godzilla’s roar through the horn, which will be the ‘coup de grace’, thanks to ringtones.com. If you get a chance to see the Godzilla SUV, it’s quite impressive, but don’t get too close as you may get stomped on and become a permanent fixture on this truck’s tires.
