i have noticed people talking about adding sea foam to there gas tank to clean out the built up carbon in there engines. Does it actually work?? Does it harm the engine? How many people have tried it?

Dark Stone,

First things frist.... Welcome to Ford Truck World!!!!

second..... SEA FOAM IS OUTSTANDING!!!! Used it on my old 89 Ranger with 2.9V6 and it cleaned out the entire engine!!! Had the engine rebuilt and the mechanic said the engine looked like it had 30K miles on it instead of 140K. Injectors were clean. Valves were clean.

Beaver dam good stuff

I used:
one in the gas tank
one in the Vaccum lines (brake booster line)
one in the oil

It smokes like MAD for about 20 minutes. Keep the hood up for additional cooling. If you have people living close by, let them know the smoke is ok before they call the fire department (learned that the hard way)

i just did it....got rid of my misfire problem that ive had for about a year!!

20mins????

i put a bottle in the gas tank, one in the oil, and then poured the last in a bowl and unhooked the brake booster vacuum line

i had a buddy idle the truck at about 1200, then i proceeded to let the line suck up the seafoam out of the bowl (DONT submerge it, itll cut off the engine)....just let it suck until you start to hear it getting real low in rpms then kinda judge where it needs to be....takes a minute.

then let it sit for 10mins and drove around for about 5more mins

mine smoked for maybe a mile or so, then was done....runs WAY better but still not perfect

I have never heard of putting it in your oil, but I have used it for years in the gas tank. It cleans out carbon from your engine and will dry-up water in your gas tank. This is the time of the year, (wide temperature swings), that your gas tank sweats and accumulates water.

I just got a car to drive back and forth to work. A 95 Buick Century with the 2.2L I4. I put 3/4 of its though the brake booster line and the rest in the tank. It runs ALOT smoother now.

i've never heard of this stuff, sounds good to me but i don't want to screw up anything in my engine by accident, how exactly does the stuff work?
I was considering running a bit of 100 octane through mine, i know that did a great job of cleaning out my motorcycle engine

I've heard of it but can't find it at the local auto parts store. Is there a site online I can get it from?

I used a whole bottle a month ago in my 91 civic. I poured half in the oil and half thru the brake booster line. I let it sit for over a half hour and it smoked like nothing else for more than 15 minutes. It ran better after i did all of that and i got the oil changed 2 days later and it has never had clean oil on the stick before.

I'm thinking I will try this soon. Does adding it through the brake booster cause it to turn on the CEL?
