garage and it looks like I got another project started.
so! I found this axle under my shelving unit. I knew it was there!
the gear was on the wrong side so I took the diff apart and switched the axles around.
and then it happened!
I couldn't control myself!
all I have to do now is shorten the axle and grind in a keyway slot, plus add a "E" clip groove around the axle and the axle will be done.
then I just have to weld in some metal to the cross braces that already existed on the frame. which inturn will push the axle bushing mounts out to the rims where they belong.
next!
the Motor and drive train!

well!
last night I did a stupid thing.
I cut the axle too short.
the one on the right is the right lenght for both sides. the one on the left.... well let's just say I had a laps in memory when measuring.
but! the good news is that the piece I cut off is long enough to use for the axle!
so now I just have to machine off two flats and put a "E" clip slot and I can put the diff back together.

well
I took the xle to work and I milled off the end so the gear will fit on. now I just have to cut a groove for the snap ring and I can put the diff back together and mount it.
then it is time to weld in the braces and start working on a motor.

I got the axles set up.
and I put the diif back together.
then I reinstalled the axle on the frame. and started welding the frame where it needs to be.

"And then it happened"
Great line.
Who gets the first ride???? Just make sure they have a helmet on cus it's gonna FLY!!! (If you were serious about the lawn mower engine (my first pick) how about a lawn trimmer motor? Size would be acceptable.
Great work, after all these years I thought you were a sick perverted man and here you are a genius (OK except for breaking the "measure twice cut once rule") but considering I dropped my truck onto my Jeep before Blooms I shouldn't talk!

one day I have to hear this story!
I still don't see how you drop your truck on your jeep. but you did it so there has to be a great story behind it!
I have a snowblower two stroke motor for it. chain drive with clutch. and it will have a drum style brake on the diff housing.
oh! and this one folds up so it will be really portable.

That's nothing. I've been to George's house many times. He has ingenious stuff he made and forgot about 10 years ago stuffed in every nook and cranny in the garage. He's got Rockwell machine tools that are the size and weight of a car. It's a veritable museum of how things were made when they were made to last. On top of it all, he has the "I can do this" attitude--and he can. As we speak, he's working on making me a 21st century woman. Hurry up George, I can't last that much longer.
